I would doubt anyone over the last several weeks has checked the weather more than I have.
We live by the snow and during high pressure we are always looking for a change.
The slow start to 2026 is nothing we haven’t seen before. My dad has told me stories of similar conditions at times during the 49 year history of Ruby. And a 30 day dry period is nothing out of the ordinary for the west in the winter. Often called the “January Thaw.”
Even though it has happened before, it doesn’t make the high pressure blocking patterns any easier to deal with.
“Extra attention to detail makes up for a lot of high pressure,” as long-time RMH guide J Bristow used to say.
We have been very fortunate in the last 3 weeks to have incredible weather which has allowed us to fly the entire range finding good skiing at upper elevations.
A magic storm has appeared on the models the last few runs with a potential weak system moving through tomorrow, brining a few inches to the mountains. A few inches would really help to reset most of the terrain we have been skiing.
A new group arrives tomorrow for the single day Thursday, followed by the weekend crew arriving Thursday for three days.
High pressure builds again Thursday for the short term.
