January 2, 2023. Big storm, new year.

A huge storm in an early season packed with huge storms.

This one packed a punch, coming in warm with rain in the valley for the entire final day of 2022.

Temperatures dropped yesterday with overrunning moisture pouring into the Great Basin from the atmospheric river smashing into the California Coast.

The result was more than 18″ of new snow in 24 hours at Ruby 360 Lodge and snotels throughout the range showing anywhere from 2+ feet to 40″ of new snow with this cycle.

We are approaching a 8′ base at 9,000 feet, some of the best opening conditions every at Ruby.

It is a clear morning here today, the first time we have seen the mountains in more than 72 hours.

The aircraft and guides arrive on January 8th with the first guests coming in on the 12th.

The weather remains active through the long term forecast.

Happy New Year.
